World Cleanup Day, 2019

World Cleanup Day, 21September was marked within the project by Environment Week. Representatives of the project partner schools in Imereti region, in particular pupils and teachers of Kutaisi public schools No 1, No 2, No 12, No 28 and No 32, as well as of Gelati public school from Tkibuli municipality and the villages of Rokiti and Persati from Baghdati mu­nicipality, Samtredia public school No 11, Zestafoni public school No 4; Tskaltubo public schools No 1 and No 4, and Khoni public school No 1 cleaned the streets, squares and surrounding areas of plastic and other waste.

Citizens of other countries who are temporarily resident in Kutaisi have also joined this event in Kutaisi.

268 people participated in Week activities and 95 bags of waste were collected.

Ungheni (Moldova)

On September 20th 2019, the Project Partner Ungheni City Hall together with the civic partners organized and carried out sanitation and waste collection actions on the occasion of World Clean-up Day. The purpose of the actions organized on this day is to make the inhabitants of Ungheni aware of the maintenance of cleanliness in the places where they live or work as well as in the public places, thus contributing to maintain a clean environment and protect their health.

The cleanup action involved children, educators, pupils and teachers from 5 lyceums, one primary school, 3 col­leges, 4 kindergartens and 3 local groups of initiative. With the slogan “A clean environment is a healthy environment”, about 2000 inhabitants of Ungheni City, cleaned the public spaces and the green areas in the 7 districts of the city. Through joint efforts were collected over 20 tons of garbage in one day.

 

Galati (Romania)

 On September 19, 2019 the Tehnopol Galati Association organized and carried out sanitation and waste collection action on the occasion of World Cleanup Day. This cleanup action involved pupils and teachers from Secondary School Miron Costin.

Regarding the World Clean-Up Day, was held several cleaning actions within the project “Waste Free River For a Clean Black Sea” and the pupils of Gelati and Kutaisi Public School N 2 took part in it. Despite the desire of the majority of young people to be actively involved in the cleaning campaign, the number of participants was determined by the COVID19 restrictions and Groups of 5 people were formed in the schools and in total more than 40 students from both schools participated. The youths cleaned the areas around the schools. The action was held in compliance with all regulations and rules of COVID19.

31 October – International Black Sea Day, 2018

Kutaisi (Georgia) International Black Sea Action Day was celebrated in Kutaisi, which was marked by a week (27 October – 2 No­vember 2018). The International Black Sea Action Day activities actively involved the schools and AkakiTsereteli State University. A meeting with pupils of Kutaisi public school was held at the Akaki Tsereteli State University’s Department of Chemi­cal and Environmental Technologies on sustainable manage­ment of water resources. A lecture was held on “The Black Sea: Current State and Challenges” by ProfessorEmzarGordadze. Environment painting action was organized, which in­volved students of Giorgi Maisuradze Art School and students of the Akaki Tsereteli State University’s Faculty of Technical Engineering specialized in Applied Design.

      

31 October – International Black Sea Day,2019

International Black Sea Day was marked from October 28 to November 2, 2019 by a number of environmental events organized in Kutaisi and Poti.   On October 28, the large-scale cleanup actions were held at several locations on the Black Sea coast in Poti. The action involved: pupils and teachers from eleven public and two private schools of Poti, students of Poti branch of Akaki Tsereteli State University, the Kolkheti National Park staff, representatives of Poti Sea Port Corporation and local gov­ernment, as well as representatives of the Imereti Scien­tists’ Union „Spectri” and Self-Government City of Kutaisi. About 100 bags of waste were collected at the selected lo­cations on the Black Sea coast, disposal of which was pro­vided by Poti City Hall. A total of 222 people were involved in the cleanup actions.   On October 29, a presentation of environmental educa­tional printing and video resources created within the proj­ect was held at Kutaisi City Hall for project partner school teachers and other stakeholders. The teachers noted with great interest the material provided and expressed their views regarding subject matter of these educational re­sources and their practical significance. On October 30, the pupils of the project partner schools organized in Kutaisi an exhibition of various items produced from plastic, textile and paper waste with the motto “Waste is a Useful Resource”. People in city got acquainted with interest with these items.   On October 31, within a Week program, a pupils’ practi­cal conference on “Let Us Protect Rivers and Seas from Pollution” was held at Akaki Tsereteli State University. The confer­ence participants made the interesting presentations on current ecological status of rivers and the Black Sea, environmen­tal problems and preventive measures. A total of 51 pupils from the project partner schools of Imereti region took part in this conference. On November 7, 2019, the students of Eco Club at the Children and Youth Center in Tskaltubo Municipality held a theo­retical conference “Let’s Protect Rivers and Seas from Pollution”, during which presentations were made by pupils from schools of Tskaltubo municipality.

22 April – the International Earth Day, 2019

April 22 was marked in Kutaisi by organizing important environmental events. The coastline of rivers of Rioni and Rua, as well as the school yards and the Kutaisi Botanical Garden area were cleared and cleaned from plastic debris.

The clean-up events involved: The University students, pupils and teachers from partner schools in Kutaisi and oth­er municipalities, emergency service (112) staff, NGO rep­resentatives and other stakeholders.

It is noteworthy that young European ambassadors who came from different cities of Georgia to Kutaisi were in­volved in clean-up events on the Rioni River coastline.

A total of 22 events were organized to mark this day, in­volving 617 people and 120 bags of waste were collected.

The discussion was held at Kutaisi City Hall, where young people discussed the problems and challenges of plastic pol­lution.

Ungheni (Moldova)

The International Earth Day (April 22) was marked in Unghen and Ungheni district, by organizing a series of en­vironmental events, which were attended representatives of public services, and students and teachers from schools, kindergartens and institutions of higher education – a total of 1246 people. 

Galati (Romania)

The Earth Week was organized in Galati, which involved actively 91 pupils and 6 teachers from the Galati second­ary schools No 12 and No. 25 and from the Alexandr Ioan Kuza National College. The main goal of the events was to actively involve different groups of society in reducing envi­ronmental pollution caused by waste and introducing mod­ern methods of waste management.

 

 

22 April – the International Earth Day, 2020

It is 50 years since International Earth Day was first celebrated in the United States. Since then, many organizations and millions of volunteers from 192 countries around the world have participated in various environmental activities.

Due to the state of emergency created by COVID-19, within the project this day in this year celebrated with the motto “STAY HOME! TAKE CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT!’, which included online events with the participation of the teachers, schoolchildren and their parents. Representatives of the partner school and children and youth center of Tskaltubo city participated in the event. Many photo and video collages have been created about how we care our living environment. Also, the literary almanac was created through the efforts of young people.The widespread prevalence of COVID-19 has sharply shown us the wrong attitude of humans towards the earth,showing us how much damage we do to it through our careless activities and how much we are chained to it.

“Today, when the whole world is in ordeal, we feel especially clearly the love of life, the beauty of the world, the meaning and purpose of our existence on earth,” said Tinatin Cholokava, a pupil at the Gvishtibi School in Tskaltubo Municipality.

“Currently, the earth is resting from people, because the corona virus has locked people in their homes. They can no longer do harm to the earth.

 

18 March – The Global Recycling Day!, 2019

The Global Recycling Day was marked in Kutaisi, involving actively pupils from Kutaisi public schools. Specially for this day, pupils collected waste papers that were transferred to the waste paper collecting enterprise.

On 17 March 2021, Imereti Scientists’ Union SPECTRI, organized, a waste collection action to celebrate this date. A special banner was prepared, to inform the population about the importance of this day and called on them to take part in waste collection. The information also shared through the social network.

The special containers were set up in front of the office to collect plastic and paper waste. During the day, NGOs, school children and citizens took an active part in the waste collection campaign.

At the end of the day, the collected waste was handed over to the entrepreneurs working in the field of recycling for further processing.

 

       

 

 

5 June – the World Environment Day! , 2019

On June 5, within the framework of the events in Kutaisi, there were organized in Kutaisi the clean-up and plastic and paper waste collection event, and the eco-tour in the Botanical Garden and outdoor drawing event for children were or­ganized.

The events involved actively pupils from 13 public schools of Kutaisi and Imereti region, students of Akaki Tsereteli State University, members of the N-Art Studio, representatives of NGOs, mass media and local authorities, a total of 127 people.

At the end of the day, a peaceful marche of young students was organized through the central streets of Kutaisi City holding posters Say no to the pollution of rivers by waste” and “Healthy environment for healthy generation”.

 

The Recycling Hour in the public schools

On June 5, as part of the events to mark World Environ­ment Day, in the public schools of Kutaisi and Imereti region the Recycling Hour was held bringing together 209 pupils from several grades.

The main purpose of the Recycling Hour is to raise the next generation’s awareness of waste 3R principles. It is noteworthy that during the “Recycling Hour”, the pupils made made creative and fun items that they will use in the future.

        

Ungheni (Moldova)

On 5 June, on World Environment Day, kids from the Un­gheni kindergarten “Stelut” visited the City Hall.

 

Galati (Romania)

On May 29 and June 10 2019, activities were carried out in Galati City to mark World Environment Day. In particular, 52 pupils and 3 teachers from Galati secondary schools No. 10 and No. 11 visited the greenhouse of the „S.C. Gospodărire Urbană S.A.“ company and received information about the importance of flowers in our life.

The clean-events were organized by Technopol Galati in three secondary schools of Galati: on May 31, 2019, 51 pupils from Galati schools No. 2 and No. 33 cleared and cleaned the schools surrounding area. On June 6 and 7, the clean-up events involved 28 students from the Alexandru Ioan Cuza college, and 46 pupils from from Galati secondary school No. 10.

 

 

 

 

 

 

     

Summer Camp „Young people from Ungheni for a clean environment” (Ungheni, Moldova)

 

The project Partner, Ungheni City Hall joins the online communication campaign – Europe Day 2020 and presents the Ecological Summer Camp „Young people from Ungheni for a clean environment”, a success story within the project „Waste Free Rivers for a Clean Black Sea”.

 

Between July 8th-12th, 2019, in the Multifunctional Cultural Center „Regina Maria” in Berești neighborhood of Ungheni, the ecological summer camp „Young people from Ungheni for a clean environment” was organized, and it was attended by 30 students and young people of the age between 14 – 20 years old from Ungheni City and the neighboring rural localities: Pîrlița, Sculeni, Valea Mare, Mănoilești, Zagarancea, and Semeni villages.

 

The participants of the summer camp learned about the problems related to the pollution of Black Sea and the Prut River, the causes of water pollution and the actions that every citizen could take to face the current environmental challenges, they learned about the 3R principle of waste collection and the integrated waste management system in Ungheni. There they learned how to develop a plan of environmental activities, how to properly plan the resources for the implementation of the plan and how to organize the campaign to promote ecological messages for environmental protection. They interacted directly with decision makers from Ungheni municipality and district, thus finding out more about the existing ecological problems in the locality and they paid a visit to the Sorting and Compaction Station from ME „Ave – Ungheni”, they visited the Prut river and „Steluța” kindergarten, which shared the good practices of organizing environmental activities. At the same time, the participants created in the master-classes hand-made objects from recyclable materials (plastic, paper, textiles, etc.) and participated in sanitation actions. The children actively rested and had a great time.

 

This activity was part of the Environmental Education Program for schools in Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Romania and it aimed to familiarize students and young people with river and marine waste problems and to educate correct ecological behavior.

Black Sea Day 2018

 

Week  dedicated to the International Black Sea Day was held within the frame of the project „Waste Free Rivers for a Clean Black Sea Georgia Moldova Romania“. The week involved school teachers of the Imereti regions, pupils of Public Schools, high school students of Akaki Tsereteli State University and pupils of Giorgi Maisuradze Art School. More than 150 people in all involved in the Week on the International Black Sea Day.

In addition, a circle on environmental issues was also held on the site (participated: pupils of Giorgi Maisuradze Art School and students of Akaki Tsereteli State University) and were exhibited products made from plastic waste.
