22 April – the International Earth Day, 2019

Kutaisi (Georgia)

April 22 was marked in Kutaisi by organizing important environmental events. The coastline of rivers of Rioni and Rua, as well as the school yards and the Kutaisi Botanical Garden area were cleared and cleaned from plastic debris.

The clean-up events involved: The University students, pupils and teachers from partner schools in Kutaisi and oth­er municipalities, emergency service (112) staff, NGO rep­resentatives and other stakeholders.

It is noteworthy that young European ambassadors who came from different cities of Georgia to Kutaisi were in­volved in clean-up events on the Rioni River coastline.

A total of 22 events were organized to mark this day, in­volving 617 people and 120 bags of waste were collected.

The discussion was held at Kutaisi City Hall, where young people discussed the problems and challenges of plastic pol­lution.

Ungheni (Moldova)

The International Earth Day (April 22) was marked in Unghen and Ungheni district, by organizing a series of en­vironmental events, which were attended representatives of public services, and students and teachers from schools, kindergartens and institutions of higher education – a total of 1246 people. 

Galati (Romania)

The Earth Week was organized in Galati, which involved actively 91 pupils and 6 teachers from the Galati second­ary schools No 12 and No. 25 and from the Alexandr Ioan Kuza National College. The main goal of the events was to actively involve different groups of society in reducing envi­ronmental pollution caused by waste and introducing mod­ern methods of waste management.

Kutaisi (Georgia)

It is 50 years since International Earth Day was first celebrated in the United States. Since then, many organizations and millions of volunteers from 192 countries around the world have participated in various environmental activities.

Due to the state of emergency created by COVID-19, within the project this day in this year celebrated with the motto “STAY HOME! TAKE CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT!’, which included online events with the participation of the teachers, schoolchildren and their parents. Representatives of the partner school and children and youth center of Tskaltubo city participated in the event. Many photo and video collages have been created about how we care our living environment. Also, the literary almanac was created through the efforts of young people.The widespread prevalence of COVID-19 has sharply shown us the wrong attitude of humans towards the earth,showing us how much damage we do to it through our careless activities and how much we are chained to it.

“Today, when the whole world is in ordeal, we feel especially clearly the love of life, the beauty of the world, the meaning and purpose of our existence on earth,” said Tinatin Cholokava, a pupil at the Gvishtibi School in Tskaltubo Municipality.

“Currently, the earth is resting from people, because the corona virus has locked people in their homes. They can no longer do harm to the earth.
